When you affect something, you produce an effect. Use affect when the object of the verb is not what will be produced by the action but the one that receives the action. Examples:

Jose's sexy, sexy body deeply affected Raoul. Jose effected a change in Raoul's sexuality.

In the first sentence, Raoul is receiving the action. Therefore you should use affect. In the second sentence, the object is not receiving the action but is instead the result of the action. Therefore you should use effect.

That's basically it.

1. Those are excellent examples.
2. I *totally* had it as "affect" first, and then I thought better of it. TRUST YOUR INSTINCTS, SELF.
3. I sincerely hope that gangly adorable BB Mike Maronna does not effect a change in your sexuality.

Yes, but in the case of a noun, as in the title of this post, it's "effect". "Affect" is only usable as a noun in certain specific cases having to do with emotional reactions

Oh, it's more than creepy for me. If it meant meeting Big Pete at *exactly that age up there* I would, I swear to god, RELIVE PUBERTY FOR HIM. Yeah, bet you haven't considered *that* before. And I'm not talking the whole "childhood with convenient adult wisdom" either. I'm talking full-blown, oh my god hair in places, why am I getting boobs, why are boys so cute and mean and stupid, mood swings and unfashionable jeans and velour sweaters PUBERTY. And, mind you, when *I* was 11, I was suicidal, straight-up.

But for Big Pete (Mike Maronna maybe not quite so much) I'd do it again.
