meme stolen from theonlytwin. I started out doing this fast and then I decided to take my time and I even found PICTURES.
List 10 platonic male/female relationships in fiction that you enjoy.

1. They interact in canon, preferably in a significant (apply your own interpretation of such) way.
2. They are not related. They can, however, view each other as surrogate family.
3. Neither has confessed or implied romantic love for the other in canon.
4. They have not dated, been married, had sex, or made out in canon, on purpose, and of their own free will.
5. A popular fanon ship is ok (though preferably not your ship) but a canon pairing you wish were just friends is out.
6. Try to avoid using the same character or series twice.

click my cheesy awesome collage:

1. fandom-Harry Potter Neville Longbottom & Ginny Weasley

edited from fanart by uknow-who

They are totally Partners in Highschool Rebellion together! Neville gets over his unrequited Ginny thing sometime around book 5 when you realize that he's an uber badass. They have a super secret hideout, they play mommy and daddy to lost and scared wizard kids, they RULE, all between the lines and behind the scenes.

2. fandom-Stargate SG-1 Samantha Carter & Daniel Jackson

omg bonus Teal'c :D

In a team made of supermench level badasses, these two are the flipsides of the intellectual genius coin. Whereas Teal'c and O'Neill are Strength/Spirit and Strategy/Stealth, respectively, Carter and Jackson are Numbers/Engineering and Words/Communication. With their powers combined, Sam and Daniel can basically learn ANYTHING, build ANYTHING, communicate ANYTHING, and win ANYTHING. In fanon they were an early popular ship, partly, I feel, because they are the two more "normal" parts of the SG team, but when you look at it with clearer eyes you see that they are pretty messed up to begin with, just owing to their enormous brains. Carter, who's had daddy issues since the beginning of time, really needs a male friend who challenges her on a level that *isn't* physical or sexual. And Jackson, a loner, hopeful misanthrope, and all around nerd, needs a female friend who can provide familial comfort and a level of higher understanding that only Carter can provide. Oh, how I love (and miss) them. <3

3. fandom-Star Trek The Next Generation Data & Troi

When my hand is forced, Data is my favorite TNG character. The female character with which he has the least in common is Deanna Troi, the ship's counselor. She deals in the realm of emotions and Data doesn't have them. As such, Data comes by to not drink tea and discuss weird humanoid experiences and emotions, hoping to gain a larger understanding of existence. TNG is all about thinking too much and metaphor, and although Data gains more humanity through his friendships with the rest of the crew, Troi and Data seem to eventually form this relationship of gentle mentor and eager student. It's a very easy, calm level of interaction. Troi, a woman whose entire reality is colored by the emotions of those around her, finds Data to be both startlingly foreign and very relaxing, as well as often amusing. I think that their relationship is one of the least contrived, best written friendships in the whole show.

4. fandom-M*A*S*H Radar & Hotlips

Lol, I know, I know. I love how Radar is scared of Hotlips to begin with and eventually turns into this brash little guy who rebuffs her trying to walk all over him. And I love how Hotlips starts out presuming Radar is an incompetent buffoon and ends up realizing that he's the most capable person in the whole damn camp. There are a few times when they interact and it's just very touching, because Hotlips feels, sometimes, that Radar can be trusted, and Radar feels, sometimes, that Hotlips deserves her dignity, and these are both things that the other members of the camp don't seem to really believe about either of them. <3

5. fandom-Doctor Who The 10th Doctor & Donna Noble

T_T I'm still weeping, here. But oh god, they could have been so beautiful, a really truly proper *friendship*. I still can't talk about it too much without getting overly emotional, I'm totally serious. Ugh, oh god.

6. fandom-Ned's Declassified School Survival Guide Cookie & Moze

Hahaha, I loved this show and I don't care who knows it. Cookie and Moze are Ned's two best friends and I love them together. Moze always has this deadpan reaction to Cookie's absurd schemes, Cookie always tries to cheer Moze up or fix her problem and ruins everything horribly, oh, it's just great fun. I loved how, near the end of the show, Cookie just happily assumes that Moze and Ned are already together, like, five times, but doesn't really ever *interfere* because he's too self-absorbed. And Moze manages to save Cookie's hide more times than I can remember, even though she can't normally figure out her motivation. They make me smile.

7. fandom-Sailor Moon Artemis & Sailor Venus

In a show all about romantic love you get this strange friendship between a girl and her magical talking cat who is a boy even though he has a girl's name. They fought crime together when Minako was Sailor V, and Artemis is her best friend in every version of Sailor Moon (I think, anyway, it's been a while for some of them.) In PGSM, the live action (MY FAVORITE) Artemis keeps Minako's secret and it's heartbreaking. In the anime, Minako makes fun of Artemis having a thing for Luna and it's just adorable. For a girl who is always depicted as an Idol or famous in some way and totally popular and gorgeous, I think it's interesting and sweet that she's actually a crazy cat lady.

8. fandom-Frasier Niles & Roz

This is one of my favorite shows ever. I'm sure by now you can tell that I prefer relationships that involve bickering and general annoyance as a matter of course, and apart from my fictional and hopeless love affair with David Hyde Pierce, I will regularly rewatch episodes of Frasier that I've seen five times already just for the thirty second interactions between Niles and Roz. Niles goes through the largest character arc in the show, and Roz has a lot to do with his becoming a more reasonable and loveable human being. She doesn't put up with his crap, and over time, they go from outright rudeness to terse pleasantries for the sake of Frasier to straight up enjoyment of each others' company. But they never lose the banter, and even after the show seemed like it had "jumped the shark", Roz and Niles still had that chemistry going strong.

9. fandom-The Adventures of Pete & Pete Ellen & Artie

Ellen was often the only sane one of the ensemble Pete & Pete cast. Artie, of course, was the most off the deep end. But Ellen understood the absolute importance of Artie's existence to the Wellsville world, and Artie understood Ellen's. When Artie became a normal adult, Ellen did everything in her power to stop it. When Ellen was on a new crusade, or needed help finding Mister Tastee, or what have you, Artie would always be there to assist. If you're looking at it too deeply, Ellen and Artie are the balancing measures on the Pete & Pete scale. Artie's insanity makes Younger Pete seem more normal, Ellen's sanity makes Older Pete seem more absurd. It's amazing that they work together so well, but that's Pete & Pete for you. :)

10. fandom-Avatar Toph & Iroh

fanart by virusgarura

So Toph is my favorite character in all of Avatar (duh) and I ship her like crazy with Sokka (don't be hatin') but I loved all her interaction with Uncle Iroh. Iroh is a guy who is so freaking badass it's nearly indescribable, and Toph is a girl with untold powers that just keep getting more and more amazing. I always like to think that Iroh has a LOT to do with Toph being able to control herself. Toph needs a parental figure who admires her for her own self, and Iroh needs a young person with whom he can be confident won't ever feel threatened by his power. Iroh is slightly crazy and so is Toph. They are similarly equal values of Neutral Aligment throughout most of the story arc, and have more in common than probably any of the other characters on the show. If not for the enormous age different, I would ship it properly, and in some instances, I do, for the lols, but I like their platonic interactions way more than any romance.

Omygawd, this meme took FOREVER. You'd best shower me with praise if this entertained or interested you, holy crap. Time to do chores.

omigod, i love all your fandoms! (but i have never watched ned's declassified. should i?) go awesome snarky bantery realtionships of awesomeness, like doctordonna! and tophiroh! and ginnyneville! and you got pictures and did full paragraphs and man, myou make me look lazy. (which i am. shhh!) but i just, like in the last three minutes, ordered the adventures of pete and pete on dvd, because orangespark wrote a brilliant ellen drabble that reminded me of everything i love about the show.

Re: for i am artie! the strongest man... in the world!
Ned's is super entertaining, but it is decidedly a kid's show. It's got a really rich sound engineering, nearly every action and moment has this near cartoon level of sound effects mixed in... But yes. You should watch it. Because... I said so!

*reads ellen drabble*

d'aaaaaaw. Pete, Ellen and the whole show just exists in this time bubble for me... They don't grow up, they just *are*. *cries a little bit*
Here's the thing you need to know about Pete & Pete on dvd: the last season's never been released. You can generally find it online with a touch of searching. But THANK YOU for buying the dvds! They didn't sell enough, or something. It's complicated and stupid and Viacom related. Blegh.

Pete & Pete is The Best Show Ever Made. I'm an enormous, devoted, lifelong, forever and ever fan. I'm SUCH a fan that I don't read or write fanfic, because I want desperately to keep all the original genius in my brain untainted.

*wistful sigh*

Cookie and Moze and Ned were such adorable friends. they were always running around everywhere.

fun fact 1: I was going to write Ned's fanfic before I got into the iCarly thing, I shit you not. Then, somehow, I don't even know, I just got... sucked in!

fun fact 2: I wracked my brain for an iCarly pairing for this, but none applied! I don't give a damn about Spencer and Marissa. Freddie and Carly have a *canon* romantic thing happening (one way). Sam and Freddie, well, LOLS, and while I love Carly and Spencer together, they're siblings so that doesn't fit. And any enjoyment I used to get out of Sam and Spencer's spamtastic mindmelds has been totally ruined by the insane-o Spam shippers. It's like, aw, that was so cute! Oh, shit that just gives more fuel to the crazies. :/ So yeah. Ned's it is!

Whaaat. Ned's fanfic? Gen or pairing?

Ned's is such a fun show... I loved watching it when it was originally running. I saw it again recently and I do NOT remember all of those sound effects. They're everywhere!

It was going to be like, the summer before highschool. Moze and Ned shippery stuff. They were going to have crazy shmoopy adorable summer adventures. I don't really remember beyond that, and the fact that Cookie was going to get arrested for hacking into government computers and need a rescue, hahahaha~
